R. Porritt, Jr. is a 6th generation of eldest
sons born to eldest sons. He was born February
26, 1948 the first seven children. He graduated
from Lake Orion High School in 1966 and
married his high school sweetheart, Christine,
in 1969. In 1970 he graduated from Oakland
University and enrolled in Wayne State University
Law School. He graduated from law school
and was licensed to practice in 1973. He
began his legal career while attending law
school in the offices of I. Goodman Cohen
in the Ford Building in downtown Detroit.
In 1973 he returned to Oakland County to
continue his career and moved to Oxford,
Michigan where he and Christine have proudly
raised their five children. He
became a partner in a firm with offices
in Oxford and Orchard Lake, Michigan. His
initial business was that of a general
practitioner with a concentration on litigation
and included criminal defense, personal
injury, divorce and general civil lawsuits.
In 1982 Mr. Porritt joined forces with
a well recognized law firm in Lake Orion
to form Parenti, Treinen, Bunting, Hohauser
& Porritt, P.C. By 1986 the partners
elected to discontinue the corporate entity
and to share space as separate attorneys.
He has continued in that business format
to this day and continues to share space
in a unique law building built as a replica
of a lighthouse on the shore of Lake Orion.
Mr. Porritt serves as a current Director
of the Orion Area Chamber of Commerce.
He is a member of the Grievance Committee
of the North Oakland County Board of Realtors.
In 1989 he and his wife established a
Re/Max franchise which is also located
in the same building and it has won numerous
awards for its performance over the years.
He is the immediate past Chairperson of
the Oakland Bar Association Real Estate
Committee. He is a past president
of Kiwanis. He maintains memberships in
the Real Estate Sections of both the Michigan
and American Bar Associations.
